Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

In Year Four we strive to be a welcoming Christian community respecting the dignity, cultural diversity and uniqueness of each student. We believe that all children are capable of learning and our role as educators is to stimulate and nurture this learning, through an engaging, supportive and fun learning environment that instils a life-long love of learning within students.

We focus on explicit teaching through Talk 4 Writing, Talk 4 Reading, daily reviews and explicit instruction in Mathematics. We have a strong focus on collaboration and using technology effectively. We embed Christian values and principles into all our learning, encouraging students to live like Jesus daily.

Term 1

What a lot of events have happened this term in Year Four! We’ve had swimming lessons, pancake day, Ash Wednesday, our assembly, Multicultural Day, Ride to School Day and Centennial Day. In Maths we’ve been focussing on time, place value and money. We’ve been writing narratives and procedures. Students have been setting goals to improve their reading fluency and learning to P.E.E (Point Evidence Explain) comprehension answers to develop their thinking.

Term 2

Wow! What a Giant term it has been in Year Four!

This term we have been immersed in a study about ‘Giants’ to help us write amazing speeches about that topic. We went on an excursion to see the Giants of Mandurah and read some awesome books.

We were lucky enough to have Mrs Elks with us for most of the term while she learnt to be a teacher. She taught us to write fantastic reports about mythical creatures… including unicorns.

This term we also had First Holy Communion Retreat and or very special sacrament of First Holy Communion.

In health, we have been learning about our identity and how special we are.
